This is a one semester course.
In this elective you will consolidate your understanding of atomic structure and the periodic table and apply this to predict and explain bonding between atoms. You will learn about a range of chemical reactions, learning to predict how things will react and investigate factors that affect the rate of chemical reactions.
Through the study of food chemistry, you will learn about polymerisation and functional groups and develop an understanding of the importance of different types of fat in the diet.
If you are considering studying any sciences at university, including biomedical science, physics, nursing, astronomy, meteorology etc, you ought to select Year 10 Chemistry as one of your options to ensure that your pathways are kept open.
Year 10 Chemistry is a pre-requisite for VCE Chemistry plus at least one of Biology, Physics or Environmental Science.
Pre-requisites– Year 9 General Science
