Throughout term 1, we conducted a presentation for each year level on the important topic of child safeguarding and protection. Here are the key concepts covered:
- Understanding Child Abuse: We discussed the different types of child abuse, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, grooming, serious neglect, emotional or psychological harm, and family violence. We also highlighted the legal requirements for mandatory reporting in Victoria.
- What to Do if You Feel Unsafe: Students were advised to talk to a trusted adult if they feel unsafe or know someone who might be in danger. We stressed the importance of seeking help even if a friend asks them not to tell an adult.
- Support at Clonard: We informed students about the various support systems available at Clonard, including all staff members, Wellbeing teachers, and Wellbeing & Community Leaders. Every staff member has received training about child safety.
- External Support Services: We provided information on external support services such as Kids Helpline, Lifeline Australia, Beyondblue, and headspace Geelong, among others.
We believe that educating our students about these critical issues is essential for their safety and well-being. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact your relevant Welcom.
