Clonard College attends Lilardia Artwork Launch

Clonard had the privilege of attending the launch of the Lilardia artwork at Lilardia Park in Footscray, including our Head of music Ms Marcia Howard, Learning support officer Mikaylee and our Fire Carrier Leader Tilly from Year 11. The event brought together community members and the family of Aunty Margaret (Lilardia) Tucker to honour her extraordinary legacy as a leader, storyteller, and advocate for justice.

At the launch we learned more about Aunty Margaret’s remarkable life and how her words (now painted prominently across the new mural) continue to speak strongly against racism and inspire courage and compassion today.

Ms Howard had previously written the song “Sorry” in response to Aunty Margaret’s story and the experiences of the Stolen Generations. This connection helped deepen our understanding of the significance of the artwork and the stories behind it.

The event was a meaningful opportunity for Tilly to witness Aunty Margaret’s family celebrating her life, the re‑publication of her book If Everyone Cared Enough, and the powerful ways her story continues to be told through art, music, and community.
