On Wednesday 29 May a group of character filled Clonard students from Year 7-12 headed out to Barwon Valley Park to compete in the annual GISSA Cross Country Championships. We could not have asked for a better day, 21 degrees and not a cloud in sight. Great running conditions. Independent and Catholic schools from the Geelong region descended upon Barwon Valley Park in what is arguably the most demanding of sports.
Clonard was very well represented with a total of 27 students across the year levels competing in the respective age groups ranging from 13 years (Year 7) to Open (Year 11-12). The course distance for the 13-15 year olds, was 3.5km while 16-Open age group competed over a 4.5km distance. The spirit in which the girls competed was exemplary, encouragement for teammates and fellow competitors was on display all day.
We are proud of all our girls for their efforts and humility, and it was also wonderful to see so many parents and family attend to support their daughters on the day. Some special mentions to the following competitors who finished in the Top 10 of for their race.
15 Years: Eva N (3rd) 14:29 Mins. 3.5 KM
15 Years: Niamh D (6th) 14:58 Mins. 3.5 KM
16 Years: Charlotte W (2nd) 18:58 Mins. 4.5KM
16 Years: Laura I (4th) 21:13 Mins. 4.5 KM
Open (Year 11 & 12): Mikayla & Isabella T (4th TIED) 20:31 Mins.
