On Friday August 16 our Intermediate Soccer Team ventured out to Kardinia International School to compete in the annual GISSA Girls Intermediate Soccer Championship.

Six schools in the Geelong area were grouped into two pools of three. Clonard were put into a group alongside Covenant College and Iona College. We were to play each school in 2 x 15 minute halve games. The winners of each pool would then go on and play off in a final to decide the Champion.

Our first game of the day was up against Covenant, we were dominant from the start running out winners with a whopping 18-Nil win. Anastazia S helped herself to 7 goals with relentless dominance up front while Zoe S was a force in the middle of the pitch and complimented her power with 6 goals. The girls were full of confidence going into our next game versus Iona.

The Iona game while slightly tighter with more pressure on the ball we were still very much in control for the majority of the game and won 11-1. Anastazia was very good again and booted 5 goals with sister Lucy chipping in with 3 of her own goals from the midfield. Zoe continued her wonderful control and form and also helped herself with 3 goals. On we march to the final.

We were up against St Ignatius in the final and it did not get off to a great start with St Ignatius scoring first and thus sending shock waves through our group. Lucy was sent to defence to shore up our structure behind the ball and along with India D, Ava C and Piper S (GK) ensured our defence was not going to be penetrated again. Instead, we stepped up our pressure on the ball and began to spread their defence and then started to take advantage of our chances and it was Anastazia who was the beneficiary with 5 goals that would prove far too strong for the opposition.

Well done girls on your achievement and the spirit with which you displayed all day.
