I attended Clonard from 2012 -2017. While at Clonard one of my favourite classes was ‘Fit for Action’ with Tonga. The Fyansford Hill climbs we did were brutal, but the lessons I learnt from this activity I have carried through to my life today. I also loved Media with Mr Jones too.
During Year 12 my favourite subjects were Media and English and I was accepted into the Bachelor of Communication (Professional Communication) at RMIT, which was my dream course. I did an AFLW journalism internship, but realised that while I loved sport, I couldn’t really see sports journalism being my career. It hit me for six because it was my dream job, or so I thought! I took a year off, went travelling and decided I wanted to combine my love of helping people and sport together. I then began a Bachelor of Health Science (Clinical Myotherapy), which led me to where I am today.
Upon completion of my Bachelor of Health Science, I worked at the Epworth Freemasons in Melbourne as well as working as a Clinical Myotherapist. I have a particular interest working with patients with chronic pain and headaches and I found it so rewarding to see them achieve their goals.
Currently I am working as a Program Support Officer at the RACGP (Royal Australian College of General Practitioners) where I work with GP registrars in South-West Victoria (ranging from Geelong to Portland) and support them on their path to GP fellowship. These Registrars have finished medical school and their hospital training and are now training to specialise as GPs. It’s great fun helping people who help people and seeing the difference they make in their communities.
I also love leadership volunteering, which has taken me to some cool places around Australia. Currently I volunteer with a not-for-profit organisation called YLead. At the start of this year, I volunteered at their international Student Leadership Conference in Sydney, where we facilitated a four day workshop for Year 12 female school leaders from all over the world which was pretty cool! I’ve volunteered at this conference for about four years now, and I absolutely love it. I also occasionally assist at in-school sessions where we run leadership workshops for students aged 10-18 around Victoria.
One of the big things I have learnt, is that although I thought I knew what I wanted to do in Year 12, I was so off the mark, but in the end, it hasn’t mattered at all!
