On Monday May 6, Year 7 students were fortunate to have poetry workshops with renowned performance poet, Emilie Zoey Baker. The workshops were really engaging for the students, who were taught a range of poetic techniques, as well as how to process ideas into a poem, in a fun and enlightening manner. Students wrote a poem on a given theme and were able to get up and perform their ‘slam poems’ to the class, in a supportive and encouraging environment. It is hoped that Clonard College will field a team of slam poets to compete in the Australian schools Poetry Slam competition in Melbourne this August. Ms Baker is a dynamic poet who knows how to engage and foster creativity in students, and the Clonard College year seven English team was thrilled to welcome her back to the school to present the poetry workshops.
