On Thursday 8 August GISSA held their annual Senior Girls Soccer tournament which was held at Kardinia International School. Seven schools were placed in either Pool A or Pool B with the winner of each pool playing off in the final which would give us a Champion school. Clonard were placed in Pool B with Covenant College and Christian College. We were scheduled to play both schools in 2 x 20 minute halves games.

Our opening game against Covenant proved to be an ice breaker where our girls became familiar with each other and comfortable with how we wanted to move the ball. Alicia S was instrumental in the middle of the pitch and linked very well with both Zoe S and Lucy S who gave our strikers numerous opportunities to convert. It was Anastazia S however who proved to be the difference between the schools with 2 goals separating the teams. Anastazia was able to header a goal from a well placed Lucy S corner, and then scored her second from a lovely through ball from Alicia S. We were very happy to walk away with a 2-nil victory. Ther was smiles all round.

Our second game was much more clinical against Christian College. Anastazia continued her dominance and kicked an amazing 7 goals. She was served brilliantly by both Zoe and Alicia. Violet W and Yu-Ru T were walls in defence, and along with goalkeeper Piper S were far too stoic for the hapless opposition. Cheslea P and Zoe S were our other goal scorers.

We went into the final against Kardinia International who finished top of their pool very weary of the goal scoring power they possessed and set up our defence accordingly to ensure pressure was our focus. Early in the game it was Alicia S however who took advantage of a loose ball through the middle of the pitch and took the ascendency with a cracking goal that gave the Kardinia Goalkeeper no chance. From there it was all Clonard, and it quickly became the Anastazia S show who finished the final with 3 goals and 12 overall goals from the three games played.

With that Clonard was crowned Senior Girls Soccer Champions and will go onto represent the region at the next level in Bundoora on Friday 30 August.

Congratulations girls on your wonderful spirit and effort on the day. The most impressive part of the performance was the humility and class with which you conducted yourselves. Be proud.

Thank you, and Well Done
