Student Achievements – Ruby W

Clonard College’s Ruby W was lucky enough to be accepted into the Monash Young Scholars Program. A huge achievement for Ruby.

The Monash Scholars Program is a prestigious two- or three-year initiative offered to high-achieving Year 10 students in Victoria, aiming to give them a head start into university life. It supports participants across Years 10 to 12 with academic development, personal growth, and career exploration, offering workshops like “Preparing for Year 11 and 12,” subject-specific revision lectures, and events to build study and leadership skills. Scholars also benefit from networking opportunities with like-minded peers, guidance on career aspirations (including CV and interview preparation), and support in shaping their broader personal goals beyond academic success.

Here is what Ruby had to say about Day 1 of the program:

‘A big place full of endless possibilities and I was lucky enough to be sitting alongside other fortunate students ready to embark on an incredible experience. We started off the day with a ‘getting to know you’ seminar and outlining what the next 2 and a half years will look like in the Monash Scholars program. Along with get to know you activities including a very fun Kahoot and quiz, we than moved onto a Q & A panel with previous scholars who were in their first year of studies in a range of various degrees, then a quick break and off to the next activity.

We were split into teams and competed in tug of war, bean bag toss, basketball shooting, bowling and cup stacking. These activities were super fun promoting new connections and we all became very competitive.

After a little walk back, we headed back to the theatre to find out more things we had in common with the other scholars and strengthened our new found friendships through competing with how many things we have in common.  This first experience as part of the Monash scholars’ program was inspirational as it challenged and inspired us all.

I am so excited for the next seminars on different career paths and setting up for VCE.  Most importantly I am most excited to grow and flourish in the scholar’s program with all the resources provided.’ – Ruby W
