Congratulations to Aimée Van Der Meer. This is her second opportunity to play at the Youth International Gryphon Cup in Perth, after playing with Bobby Payne’s Coaching academy (BCA) in 2023. The Gryphon Cup hockey tournament is an under 16 event organised by Hockey WA to give emerging young hockey players a unique opportunity to compete in an international competition including teams from Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan.

Aimée has been training with Bobby Payne’s coaching Academy squad since August, to prepare for the Gryphon Cup. The squad includes players from Melbourne and regional Victoria and is one of two squads from Victoria who play at the event.

Aimée’s team finished the tournament with competitive results, just missing out on the finals with a heart stopping 1-0 loss in their last pool round match. The team’s overall result was 3 wins (5-0, 1-0 and 1-0), 1 draw (2-2) and 3 losses (0-5, games 1-2 and 0-1).

Aimée has played junior representative hockey in the Victorian Junior State Championships at U13 and U16 level and won silver medals with the Geelong girls U16 team at the Junior Country Championships in 2023 and 2024.

After 4 years of junior representative hockey with Geelong, Aimée is looking forward to playing senior hockey with the Hockey Geelong Sharks next year in the Hockey Victoria ‘Vic League 1’ women’s competition.
