As part of our Year 11 VCAL studies we are running an event called “The Great Book Swap”. We will be partnering with Holy Family and Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School students to run the book swap. A Great Book Swap will be held to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) to provide books and learning resources to children living in remote communities across Australia. You can help us by donating books that are age appropriate for Grades 2, 3 and 4 students.
Further to these aims we hope to:
- Come together as a community to share books with the primary schools to improve literacy skills and encourage a love or reading
- Educate the primary school students about closing the GAP in Indigenous literacy levels and about Australia’s First Nation’s culture
- Broaden our own skills in leadership, planning, organization and confidence through the community engagement
- Fundraising will enable us to help in providing educational resources for remote Indigenous communities
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP US!
Help us collect books that can be used as part of the Great Book Swap, by donating spare books from home or family members that you think will be appropriate for Grades 2, 3 and 4 students. Now is the perfect time, while in lockdown, to go through your bookshelves in search of some books to donate!
When we return to school, a collection tub for all books will be located in the staff room and the front office foyer for you to place your donated books in.
This event will be run within COVID Safe Operating Guidelines.
