Clonard College celebrated World Poetry Day 2022 on Monday 21 March.

UNESCO began to celebrate World Poetry Day in 1999, as a day to honour poetry, ‘linguistic diversity’ and to promote the writing, reading and teaching of poetry.

As well as library displays of poetry within the Brigidine Centre library, a poetry competition was held for students in Years 7 – 9 and 10 – 12 and the winners were:

Junior section:
1st place – Emily Wolfe, Year 8
2nd place – Ashleigh Anderson, Year 8
3rd place – Laura Irvine, Year 8

Senior section:
1st place – Maggie Dawson, Year 11
2nd place- Jayda Bhalla, Year 11
3rd place – Kerenabuke Mulashe, Year 11

An open Mic performance was held in front of Clonard House at lunch, with students performing and Mr Ryan, reading a poem.

The Man’s Day

Tick Tock, goes the clock.
Groan, the person wakes up alone.
Flick, the light goes on quick.
Clink, breakfast is finished and in the sink.
Swish, the man is dressed without a tish.
Click, the door is locked in a nick.
Vroom, the car is off with a zoom.
Click, the door is unlocked in a nick.
Swish, the record player is dressed without a tish.
Clink, the music starts, he dances in sync.
Flick, a customer comes in quick.
Groan, he must find his record all alone.
Tick Tock, the day is over, says the clock.
Click, the door is locked in a nick.
Vroom, the car is off with a zoom.
Click, the door is unlocked in a nick.
Roam, the man wanders his house, he is home.
