Year 7 Advanced English – Blackout Poetry

In the Year 7 Advanced English class we have been learning about poetry. We learned that words can create a variety of emotions and tell stories within stories.

Working with that idea, students found inspiration from a variety of texts, including Romeo and Juliet, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and even Mr. Ryan’s memoir Walk Like a Cow. They created a poem using words that stood out to them. Then they blackened out the rest of the text to reveal their new poem.

Their fine examples speak for the creativity living within each one of them. Way to go Year 7!
