Students in Year 7 English are working on the competency of Collaboration in conjunction with a creative writing task called ‘Snowball Writing’. The task requires students to begin a piece of writing with two partners by creating characters and putting them into a setting, then crumple up the paper into a ‘snowball’ for others to grab and continue the story. The room was abuzz with enthusiastic writers (and flying pieces of writing!) and as a teacher it was wonderful to see students engaged in their learning while also having fun.

Here are some student responses to the task:

It was fun because we got to read other people’s work. ~ Amelia H.

I liked writing a story and not knowing how the next group would continue it. ~ Kendra G.
