Year 7 Growth Project Expo – Friday, June 20

Last Friday, our Year 7 students proudly showcased their learning journeys at the Growth Project Expo. The event featured a wide range of creative and thoughtful projects, exhibited in diverse formats. It was a celebration of student voice, choice, and growth in Agency in Learning.

Students received peer feedback in three key areas:

  1. Agency in Learning – Students reflected on how they’ve grown in specific elements of Agency in Learning, providing evidence of their development.
  2. Growth Project – They explained why they chose their project focus, what they created, and the challenges they overcame.
  3. Presentation Skills – Students were assessed on how clearly and confidently they communicated, including how they responded to questions about their passions.

The Expo was a vibrant and inspiring morning, highlighting the confidence, creativity, and curiosity of our Year 7 learners. We are proud of their achievements and the way they embraced the opportunity to reflect and share their growth.

We’re already looking forward to the next Growth Project Expo at the end of the year! Families and members of the wider community will be warmly invited to attend, offering a wonderful opportunity to view the students’ projects firsthand and celebrate the remarkable learning and personal growth of our Year 7 cohort.

Here is some student feedback:

“My growth project was going back to my old school to help the move (transition) to high school for the 5/6 students. The challenges I had was making sure I was helping the kids in the right way and not distract them. I now realise how hard being a teacher is.” Maddie 7B.

“For my growth day project I made a pair of pants. I always wanted to learn to use a sewing machine. My goal was to make some pants and I did.” Juliet, 7B.

“In terms of Agency in Learning, I had to be resilient because I kept going even when things were hard.” Maya, 7G.

“My first idea was making scrunchies. I had some challenges when making scrunchies. My sewing machine broke. I did not find it interesting or appealing. I was not really learning anything so now I am doing candles.  I find it way more better and interesting doing this than the scrunchies.” Briah, 7G.

“My growth project was looking after a lot of baby chickens and selling them. Some feedback on the Growth Expo day was I should write facts about the different types of chickens. I will keep the same project for Semester Two”. Alice, 7B.

“Next semester I am building a chicken coop.” Lily, 7B.
