The Year 7 students this year are taking part in the APSMO Maths Games during Terms 2 and 3.  The Maths Games consists of four separate contests held approximately six weeks apart between May and September. The overall aim is to encourage students to develop important mathematical problem-solving skills in an enjoyable, non-threatening environment. Upon completion of the contests, all students will receive a Certificate of Achievement from APSMO for their efforts.

Students gain the most benefit from the Maths Games by consistently working on a wide range of problem-solving questions over a period of time.  The students have already had a few practice sessions where they have been taught the skills and techniques required to develop their maths problem solving skills. They have been working collaboratively, discussing problem solving strategies and trying as best they can to make their thinking visible to their teachers and classmates.

The Year 7 students have been placed in six teams. These teams consist of mixed abilities across the six Year 7 classes. The team names are: The Equationators, The Denominators, Arithmetic Acrobats, Matrix Mavericks, Fraction Force and Rhombus Rebels. All students receive points for their team for participation in the contests. Bonus points are scored for working out and obtaining the correct answer.
