On Tuesday 13 August, the Year 8 cohort undertook a growth day exhibition. A growth day is a self-driven learning experience outside of school.
This year the theme for our growth project was community; helping others. I decided to volunteer my time to an organisation called ‘Our Village’ (previously known as Geelong Mums). ‘Our village’ is a volunteer-based organisation that accepts donated goods from the local community and redistributes them to families in need. I absolutely loved my time at ‘Our Village’, everyone was so kind and welcoming making me feel like a valuable member of their team. I had an inspiring experience, helping me to learn the value of giving to others, and a true sense of community. Throughout this wonderful experience I have extended my independence, and communication skills, I have displayed courage in a new learning environment and have been open and flexible to the new. The school exhibition was a wonderful opportunity to share my experience with others, and promote this extremely worthwhile organisation.

For the Growth Project I am taking photos of people playing soccer and have created an Instagram Page, to promote positive publicity about the importance of fitness for young people. On the day of the Growth Exhibition, I got to share my success so far and how I am going to proceed. I liked the exhibition because people got to speak to me about the project and I also learnt about what other people are doing. We are making a difference in the community by making people happy and grateful. My soccer club now has a visual record of our successes due to the work I am doing.
