Our Year 9 students finished their learning for their term 1 unit in Religious Education ‘Pressing Pause’ by designing and delivering a stillness session based on eco spirituality for Year 7 students. Year 9 students created sessions that included mediation, yoga, grounding and creating nature mandalas and were matched up with a Year 7 RE class and groups to deliver it. They reflected on how their session went and the way this drew on their student agency:

“Our Year 7 students looked like they were having lots of fun and their feedback told us they felt calm and happy after the yoga session. I think us teaching them how to be still was a good idea and they were very keen on learning about it” – Amber

“I was taken by surprise when the Year 7 students weren’t too scared or shy and had a great attitude which helped build a connection and made our session flow amazingly. The only challenge was communication and trying/asking them more questions to build a stable space and trust… this drew on my student agency as it pushed me a bit out of my comfort zone with communication” – Marli

“Our Year 7 group were amazing! They were super easy and really opened up after the ice breakers. They were hesitant to take off their shoes until we modelled it. The meditation went really well, we had to complete it on the concrete as the grass was wet and the girls were so flexible” – Airlie

“ The Year 7 students were really connected and did everything we asked willingly. I love how they took off their shoes to practice grounding and they did all the breathing exercises well” – Evie
