From 2025 and beyond at Clonard, we aim to be Bravely Ambitious. One way we are doing this is by intentionally cultivating dispositions and competencies to thrive in a complex world. One action we are taking with our year 9 cohort is to teach them study skills to support flipped learning and their study days.
This new initiative is aimed at enhancing the study skills of our Year 9 students. I recently presented the first lecture in this series and received a positive response from both students and teachers.
During the lecture, we covered crucial topics such as understanding oneself as a learner, effective notetaking, and summarising techniques. Students were guided on how to apply these strategies to their daily study routines, helping them to become more efficient and confident learners.
This lecture is just the beginning. There will be six more throughout the year, each scheduled before a study day. The topics for these upcoming lectures will be developed in consultation with the Year 9 team and the students themselves, ensuring that the content is relevant and beneficial.
The goal of these lectures is to prepare our Year 9 students for the challenges of their senior years. Year 9 teachers have incorporated the techniques covered into their assessments and class tasks. Students have also responded enthusiastically, already beginning to use the strategies in their studies.
We look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of our Year 9 students as they apply these valuable study skills.
