Year 9 Geography covers two units. The first unit is all about the geography of ‘interconnectedness’. It examines how communities, small and large are connected through transportation, tourism, technology and trade. If we are to communicate with, travel and trade with all the peoples of the globe, we must understand each other and develop the technologies that have the capabilities to support our efforts.
The second unit asks, why are some people starving and others have so much? This study unit focuses on investigating the environment and its role in food and fibre production. Students will explore the biomes of the world, how they are being altered by humans and the impact these changes have on our food production (think palm oil and the rainforests). These distinctive aspects of biomes, food production and food security are investigated using studies drawn from Australia and across the world.
