Last week members of our Tjatjarrang (meaning elder sister in local Wadawurrung language) team travelled to Melbourne to take part in a First Nations Cultural day at the Aboriginal Advancement League.

The students heard about the upcoming “Voice” referendum and what it will mean, as well as the role of the Opening the Doors Foundation and Aboriginal Catholic Ministry. Groups were then created to view the head office of the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry and the incredible murals painted on signage on St. George’s Road depicting a history overview of our First Nations people since European settlement, plus some painted murals of the ‘giants’ of the rights movement from the 1930’s to the present.

The students were introduced to some indigenous games and mixed with other First Nations students across other Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools.
