For part of Term 2, our Year 9 science students have been exploring our Dynamic Earth. This involved investigating the structure of the Earth, plate tectonics, continental drift, earthquakes and volcanoes.
All students were asked to research, plan, design and build, ‘an earthquake resistant building’ using spaghetti and plasticine. They were provided a budget and dimensions for their design and allowed to test, evaluate and improve their designs before the final challenge.
It was excellent that the students could pitch their design for stability but realise the total cost of the build would also affect their pitch success to a government or organization.
